Snap General Election
26th April 2017
Politics has never been so popular, everywhere you look, read and listen, it is on the forefront of most people’s minds.
Although many were shocked when the news of a snap general election was announced, it seems to be a clever tactical move from Theresa May who wants to ensure she creates a stronger, more powerful and united Government.
Assuming a Conservative win, this gives her validation from the British public and gives her the full parliamentary support to deliver the hard Brexit strategy that she has been trying to enforce.
This decision has made some nervous, but Jerry Brand believes that this move will only strengthen bonds and increase opportunity for start-ups, he explains;
‘For starters, it means no more red tape. If the Conservatives gain more seats in the House of Commons, small businesses will actually stand a better chance of success as they will have a strong business based Government behind them. A Government supported by the public will show confidence and resilience but this impact will also help to grow a solid economy, even through Brexit.
Small businesses aren’t phased by what Brexit may bring because in this digital world, they believe in globalisation and beyond Europe. Whatever the outcome of the snap general election in terms of the impact on Brexit – this has not affected the investors that are attracted to startups, so the opportunity for these businesses to flourish is still strong’.
There is no real clarity on what Brexit will actually look like, even after the result of the snap election but arguably Britain is returning to its roots - ‘A nation of shopkeepers’ (Napoleon) and it is the entrepreneurs and start-ups that will lead the UK through Brexit regardless of the outcome of this surprise election.
